Magma Highway Heroes:

One person dies every 3.5 minutes in road accidents on highways in India. Of the 1.5 Lac people who die due to accidents annually, majority are the main bread-earner for their families (source: Report by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways). Drivers’ fault account for 78.5% (3,81,648 accidents) of the accidents and more than 30% of the total road accident deaths are associated with trucks annually.

With a view to improve Safety standards and awareness, Magma Fincorp Ltd is running a training cum health & safety programme for the Truck drivers with the help of Petroleum Conservation & Research Association, Govt of India.  The Training camp aims to address the following challenges faced by the community:

  • Road Safety and lack of skilling
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Environmental pollution
  • Low income, leading to lack of motivation and aspiration
  • Fatigue & Health Hazards
  • Improper sanitization and medical care

Till March ’20, under the Magma Highway Heroes project, we have conducted camps at more than 300 locations and have trained around 1.91 Lac truckers. The Trained Truckers have reported that they are able to save 10% – 12% fuel by using the techniques learnt at the camps. This has also increased their employability.

Winner of several recognitions, Magma Highway Heroes has entered the LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS as the largest programme for Truckers on Road Safety Training in India.
